Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Helping You Live More Independently, Safely, and Comfortably

At A1 Coordination, we help NDIS participants find and access Supported Independent Living (SIL) services that match their lifestyle, support needs, and goals.

SIL is all about helping you live more independently while still receiving the daily support you need. Whether you’re looking for shared accommodation with other participants or 24/7 in-home assistance, we’ll guide you through the entire process, from funding to move-in.

We make the journey simple, supportive, and focused on you.

What Is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded service that provides daily support for participants who need help with everyday tasks while living in a shared home or on their own.

It’s designed to help you:

• Build skills for independent living

• Stay connected with your community

• Maintain a safe, comfortable home environment

• Develop confidence and personal responsibility

SIL focuses on the supports you receive, not the house itself, meaning you can choose where and how you live while receiving the care you need to thrive.

Examples of SIL Supports Include:

• Personal care (showering, dressing, grooming)

• Meal preparation and household tasks

• Medication reminders or health monitoring

• Behavioural or emotional support

• Assistance with transport and community access

• Overnight supervision or 24/7 in-home support

• Skills development (budgeting, cooking, communication)

At A1 Coordination, we match you with experienced, reliable SIL providers and help coordinate all aspects of your daily living supports.

How SIL Funding Works

SIL funding is included under the “Assistance with Daily Life” category in your NDIS plan.

It covers the cost of the support staff who help you live independently, not rent, utilities, or meals.

Funding levels depend on:

• The type and frequency of supports you need

• Whether you live alone or share accommodation

• Your level of independence and safety requirements

Your NDIS planner or support coordinator will help assess what level of SIL funding you’re eligible for based on your Functional Assessment and daily living needs.

Who Can Access This Support?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is designed for NDIS participants who need help with daily tasks to live more independently, either on their own or in shared accommodation.

You may be eligible for SIL funding if you or someone you care for:

• Requires regular or 24/7 support to manage daily living activities

• Lives with a disability or condition that impacts independence or safety at home

• Needs assistance with personal care, cooking, cleaning, or community access

• Would benefit from developing independent living and social skills

• s transitioning from family care, hospital, or another supported environment into more independent living

Common conditions that may be eligible for SIL include:

• Intellectual Disability

• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

• Psychosocial Disability (such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or severe anxiety)

• Physical Disabilities or mobility limitations

• Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)

• Cerebral Palsy

• Down Syndrome

• Spinal Cord Injury

• Neurological or degenerative conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s Disease

SIL funding is most suitable for participants who need ongoing support throughout the day and night, rather than occasional assistance.

At A1 Coordination, we help you determine your eligibility, prepare supporting documentation, and connect with trusted SIL providers who offer the right level of care, comfort, and independence for your lifestyle.

How to Apply for SIL Funding

If you think SIL might be right for you, here’s how to start the process:

  • 1. Speak with your NDIS Planner or Support Coordinator
  • 2. Obtain a SIL Assessment and Roster of Care
  • 3. NDIS Approval
  • 4. Choose Your Provider and Home
1. Speak with your NDIS Planner or Support Coordinator

• Let them know you’re interested in SIL supports.

• They may request a functional capacity assessment or report from your therapist or healthcare provider.

2. Obtain a SIL Assessment and Roster of Care

• This assessment outlines your daily support needs, goals, and living preferences.

• A Roster of Care (ROC) is developed by your chosen SIL provider to show how your supports will be delivered.

3. NDIS Approval

• The NDIS reviews your assessment and ROC to determine the level of SIL funding to include in your plan.

4. Choose Your Provider and Home

• Once funding is approved, you can work with A1 Coordination to connect with trusted SIL providers and find the right home environment for your needs.
